5 Themes of Geography

Location: There are 2 different type of location. One is called Absolute location and the other Relative location. Relative location is a place in relation to another place, while Absolute is the exact latitude and longitude of a place.

Place: The human and physical characteristics of a location. Some examples are culture, population, climate, land masses.

Movement: The travel of people and goods, such as trading. Examples of movement is immigration, airplanes, and the internet.

Region: Region is the border or surrounding the location and how they interact. Mexico and Canada are in the same region as the United States, forming North America.

Human Environment Interaction: How humans interact with the environment. An example is pollution, people throwing their trash in bodies of water and just plain littering.

 Ireland

Location: Ireland is west of the U.K., North of Spain and France. Which is the relative location. Ireland’s absolute location is 14 degrees north and 67 degrees south.

Place: Ireland’s main language is English and Gaelic. They are known for the Blarney Stone, Blarney Castle, and the Cliffs of Moher. These features are human characteristics. Ireland’s physical characteristics are their rivers and their lowlands, high, and middle. The main religion is Catholicism.

Movement: The travel in Ireland is pretty much the same as it is here. The one thing with car travel there is that they don’t have a lot of roads and highways which makes gas and cars more expensive.

Human Environment Interaction: People in Ireland grow a lot of crops which help the soil, and makes food for animals. When Ireland gets lots of rain their land gets flooded and destroys most of their crops, reducing food. Region: Ireland is a part of the British Isles, which is a region that contains islands that lie on the northwest coast of Europe.
